ABOUT ME
THE STORY
In 2018, Belgian singer-songwriter Erika Severyns went to London for a weekend and never took the bus home.
When the pandemic struck, Erika moved to Berlin, where she kept releasing music and writing for music publications, such as For Folk’s Sake and Folk Radio UK. There, she grew into her own as a poet and folk singer. She released two singles that were reviewed by For the Love of Bands, The Other Side Reviews, JeJune Magazine, and others. Her single ‘Strongest Woman’ became the Track of the Day on Loud Women. In a review of ‘River Water’, music journalist Colin Dempsey wrote: “Her classically trained vocals pierce through skeletal folk and sharpen her lyrics to a rare degree found in the delicate tweedlings of solo singer-songwriters.”
After two years in Berlin, Erika was ready for the next big move. Fascinated by the rich culture and long-standing musical tradition of Ireland, she made Dublin her next stop. She has just finished recording her debut album, Places We Stay, with multi-instrumentalist and composer Gareth Quinn Redmond and recording engineer Albert Karch after a successful crowdfunding campaign. She is currently based in Limerick.
Instead, she moved into the grimiest hostel of Marylebone and started a BA in Songwriting at BIMM London. She wrote her songs in the basement keg room, releasing two EPs that are no longer on Spotify for very good reasons. Even despite the black mould infestation in her room and the subsequent throat infection, she managed to play Paper Dress Vintage, The Spiritual Bar, Ritzy, Hope & Anchor, and many other venues in her two years in London.
